The Breakfast Of Champions (sort of)

My mommy and daddy read my blog (hooray) and realized that I actually USE my crock pot, so they upgraded me to a brand new Kitchen Aid Crock Pot. It was love at first sight.  I squealed! I ooohed and Ahhhhed and OHHH pretty! It came at 4PM. I HAD to use it right away! I was itching to! So, I figured crock pot oatmeal would be a brilliant idea!

In the past I’ve made crock pot Steel Cut Oats. I’ve made them in the crock pot over night and they’ve been sticky and brown, I’ve made them in a bowl with in the crock pot and that worked well, but they were too watery. Last night I knew I wanted to do the bowl with in the crock pot method but straight water wasn’t going to do it. I had little milk (BAD MOM!), but I had half and half (REALLY BAD MOM! Always prepared for coffee, not so much for kids!). If I had SILK I would have used that. If I had enough 1% milk I’d have used that. But I had half & half and damn it I’m GLAD I did! It was DELICIOUS!

MY INGREDIENTS: 1 cup steel cut oats (AKA Irish Oatmeal), 2 cups half and half, 2.5 cups water. A pinch of sea salt. Brown sugar to taste (I don’t use much at all, I prefer to let everybody make it as they like it later), vanilla extract to taste (about 2tsp), cinnamon to taste (i like a lot!). Mix it all together in a bowel that will fit with in your crock pot. Put some water in your crock pot, place bowl of oatmeal mixture in croack pot, fill crock pot with water up to the top sides of your bowl, cover and cook on low for 9 hours.

Wake up to a bowl of beautiful oatmeal, dress as desired. TJ likes his with strawberries and sugar. I like mine with blackberries and almonds, Kailey likes hers with pure maple syrup, little Kevin likes brown sugar & a variety of berries, big Kev likes his plain with some splenda, and Alison is simply not touching “that stuffs”

I loved this crock pot so much that my split chicken thighs are in there right now! Dinner is about to be served. I’ve been cleaning and loving my house all day and I’ve not had to worry a damn about whats for dinner! I LOVE IT!

I’m sort of excited!

Yesterday I received a package from Fed Ex. This alone is an exciting event. I LOVE packages. Admittedly they are usually medical equipment, but I still love to receive them. Packing bubbles! Ohh fun! The kids love it and so do I!

Anyway, what was in the package you ask? Well, it was a PERK! A perk? A PERK! About a month ago I qualified for a Perk on Klout. It was from a company called Big Train® & their new product called Fit Frappe™. I did as I was asked and filled out my preferences, my address and whola… package to my doorstep. Not my mailbox, my door step. This sucker wouldn’t fit in my mailbox.

So, first impressions being what they are, I was pretty damn happy that I got a full size tub of protein, let alone samples of all of the flavors. Then, when I read, and re-read and triple read that this product could be mixed directly with HOT WATER I was nearly giddy. I know, its petty being happy not having to nuke my morning protein, but it is what it is. Second impression was skepticism. “Is this stuff going to clump up and seize on me?” I almost couldn’t wait for morning to come!

So, 4:30 am arrived and I was up and out of bed! I came downstairs and I brewed a cup of coffee. Sleepy headed I forgot that I was going to try my new Fit Frappe™. I remembered reading the suggestion that baristas could mix it up to customize their customer’s favorite coffee order, so rather than half & half I threw a scoop of Fit Frappe™ into my donut shoppe K-cup and whola, breakfast was served! It was delightful! Really really good. A great cup of Mocha goodness!

I waited till this afternoon to mix it up with plain ol’ water. I used hot water, because frankly I enjoy a warm beverage and again I wanted to see what it did when I used piping hot water.

I had no blender bottle…. it is MIA (somebody please send blender bottle)

Even still it is clump free!

CLUMP FREE PEOPLES! CLUMP FREE!!!! HELLO! YOU HEAR ME?

So, yeah, it’s really good. I like it with water alone. With milk or hood it would be creamy mocha goodness, but honestly my beverage of choice is going to be a big ol’ scoop of Fit Frappe in my coffee!

You want stats? I got stats! I used it in an 8oz serving so those are the stats you’re gettting!

8 fl oz

10g protein (Calcium Caseinate)

0 sugar

11g carbohydrate

I prefer my protein shakes smooth, and considering that this is simply shaken up in a water bottle I was really quite pleased with the result.

This protein shake is really light, delicious, not chalky, it didn’t leave me with protein tongue and most of all it was refreshing. It is not a heavy shake. Easily a favorite of mine.

Again, the convenience factor here is huge. It is easy to carry these in your purse, brief case, diaper bag or even fanny pack ;) I would much rather tackle a shake than a protein bar any day. Hydrate plus get in my protein is always appealing to me.

Chocolate has 16g of protein, 6g carbs, 110 calories and 24 vitamins and minerals. WOOT!
Vanilla has 16g of protein, 6g carbs, 110 calories and 24 vitamins and minerals.
Strawberry has: 17g of protein, 6g carbs, 110 calories and 24 vitamins and minerals.

To prove that this stuff is as good as I thought it was, I shared some with the hubby, and the kiddies. Everybody loved it! The kids wanted to try the strawberry, so I shook that up and I had the first taste. It was again, refreshing and light, not heavy and it was delicious! I’m not a strawberry fan, but this is the exception. It was great.

The hubby went for the vanilla, and as a pre-op sleever who is also a truck driver, I can tell you that Gotein will be in our pantry. He loved the taste and the on the go accessibility is everything he needs!

NOW THE GOOD NEWS! Go like my page VSGMOM.com on facebook and on Tuesday I will choose a winner for their very own sample pack of Gotein.

I also have a coupon code for you to use right now. MED05 at check out to get a 20% discount on your order of gotein.

Special thanks to the folks over at gotein for giving me the opportunity to not only review their product, but to share! YAY Gotein!
